ORIENTATIONS FOR NEW STUDENTS OR OTHER STUDENT-SPECIFIC POPULATIONS

Orientation Program Development Process

Students actually reading the college catalog may sound like wishful thinking, but a well produced online orientation program can go a long way to making that wish come true.

Cynosure orientations are produced using industry standard instructional design methods rooted in the ADDIE Model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) ensuring the effective communication of requirements, successful completion of objectives, and improved retention.

01

PROJECT KICKOFF

An in-person or online meeting with project primary stakeholders to define program objectives, establish timelines, and detail/document other design considerations.

02

CREATE/REVIEW PROJECT DESIGN DOCUMENT

The design document is the primary reference for all content definition and development moving forward.
Among much standardized information like screen template types and descriptions, the type and frequency of program testing, contact information, and the like, the primary purpose of this document is to create an outline of the content to be represented in the program.
The program is disaggregated by topic and a bulleted list of specific content to address.
The document is submitted for campus review, comment, and eventual approval and permission to move forward.

03

CREATE/REVIEW PROJECT SCRIPT/STORYBOARD DOCUMENT

The storyboards document details the screen-by-screen content being produced for this program. Screen text, video scripts, template types selection, graphic requirements/descriptions, question/answers/feedback/remediation, and more.
The document is submitted for campus review, comment, and eventual approval and permission to move forward.

04

VIDEO PRODUCTION AND CAMPUS PHOTOGRAPHY

The amount of campus video production and photography required for a project depends on many factors. How much or how little video? Is video even a requirement at all?
Typically, new student orientation programs require about 3 days of video production. In addition to the video crew, a designated photographer captures required still images.
This step includes video editing and the creation of video closed captions.

05

ASSEMBLY / PROGRAMMING

In this step, all the screen text and rich media defined by the project script/storyboard are collected and programmed into the content delivery platform or content management system.

06

ONLINE REVIEW / TESTING

The assembled program us uploaded to a location on our server to provide a convenient way to review programmed content.

07

DELIVER / DEPLOY

In this step, all the screen text and rich media defined by the project script/storyboard are collected and programmed into the content delivery platform or content management system.
